Frequently Asked Questions

  • A discovery flight is an easy, relaxed way to introduce yourself to the world of flying! We will take you on a roughly 45 minute flight where you get to see what its like to fly an airplane for the first time. Right off the bat we will let you fly around show you some basic maneuvers. Of course we’re fairly confident it will leave you wanting more. It is not a requirement if you’re already committed to start flight training but if your wondering if its for you this is a great place to start.

  • The FAA requires Private Pilot applicants to log at least 40 hours of flight time, however, the national average is 60-75 hours of flight time needed to prepare for the licensing exam (checkride). How long it takes to complete those hours is largely up to you. We suggest flying twice or even three times a week for skill development and retention.

  • The cost to complete a Private Pilot’s License varies by individual. The current estimated total cost is $10,000-$15,000. If you would like further information on training costs, contact us and we would be happy to walk you through associated costs and required training.

  • Your first solo flight is a big deal! That’s why your instructor must first make sure you can safely and consistently fly and land the airplane. Most are ready to solo after 10-20 hours of consistent flying.

  • Anyone hoping to earn and enjoy the privileges of a Private Pilot’s License and beyond must have a valid Aviation Medical to demonstrate they are fit for flight. We encourage our students to get this Medical before starting training. For more info, check out this resource from AOPA.

  • Ground school teaches the theoretical side of flying and operational knowledge. It covers all the information you will need to learn and apply to be a pilot. We suggest taking an online ground school and there are several great ones to choose from. We do not offer a formal ground school course but rather supplement your online course when needed.

  • You must take and pass a knowledge exam before taking your practical exam, also known as a checkride. You must have completed a Ground School and have a Certificate of Completion or Endorsement in order to take the test.
